Star Trek - the Borg
by finally awake init just occurred to me that we use the term "borg" when talking about the organization.
it's a cute play on words, but i wonder if the writers of star trek who came up with the idea of the borg had some experience or connection with witnesses.

Bathroom too close to the bookstudy?
by i_drank_the_wine indid any of you ever have the bathroom for your bookstudy too close to where everyone was sitting?
i had one bookstudy like that.
i never used the bathroom there except for one time when i intentionally went in there to make as loud of a poop as possible as an act of rebellion.

Not for us. The bathroom was at the far end of the ranch style house from the living room. I don't like houses that have the bathrooms right by the living room, dining room, or kitchen - I'd much rather have the bathroom farther away from the gathering areas.

Refurbished iPhones- Is It Worth it?
by Band on the Run inmy finances are tight b/c of illness.
an important part of being desireable to employers is being technologically proficient.
it seems strange b/c my employers would pay for anything even if only remotely related to the job.

One of my coworkers has an older iphone and it works just fine for her. There may be some newer apps that won't work on an older iphone, but it probably isn't that big of a deal. I use outlook, excel and word on a daily basis but I never had a formal class outside of the one day training session my employer provided. They really aren't hard to learn, the big thing for me was just that I had no idea what the programs were able to do. Good luck!

i too like blondie was shunned as an elders wife for whatever reason i have as yet to understand, it happened even when i was pioneering.
you never know what law you might break to tick someone off in that religion and how long you will be shunned.

We got yelled at once for handing out invitations to a get together at the hall. We were very new, not even baptized yet, and had no idea this was verboten. In fact, there were often announcements made at the hall about get togethers at the elders' homes, so we thought it was common practice.

Any consequences for not attending the Memorial?
by sacolton infor active jws, what would happen if they missed the memorial?
guilt-trip from the elders?
why isn't it a disfellowshipping offense since it is stressed to be of vital importance to attend?.

I'm curious as to the craziest things anyone has been shunned or disciplined over. one elders wife told me that in her previous hall, she got chewed out for not telling all the other sisters about a head lice outbreak that had affected another family in the hall. mind you, none of the affected kids had been to meeting since the discovery, all had been treated and were lice free before returning to the hall, and no other people at the hall got lice. But it was "unloving" not to warn everyone.

true christians wouldn't use coffee cups. after all, we wouldn't want to become addicted to caffeine, and de-caf coffee is just like putting a drop of sewage in a glass of water
